Claridge House is a peaceful wellbeing retreat centre and Bed & Breakfast dedicated to rest, reflection, and renewal. Set in tranquil surroundings, we offer retreats focused on relaxation, mindfulness, gentle healing, and personal growth.

Claridge House is situated in the village of Dormansland, Surrey, offering guests a calm and restorative escape from everyday life.
Is Claridge House affiliated with any organisation?
Claridge House has Quaker roots and continues to uphold values of peace, simplicity, equality, and compassion.
Do you have to be a Quaker to stay at Claridge House or attend any retreats?
No. Claridge House welcomes people of all faiths and none.
Staying With Us
What types of rooms are available?
We offer comfortable single, twin and double rooms, all but one with en-suite facilities. All rooms are simply furnished to create a restful and homely atmosphere. Each room is fitted with a thermostat so you can ensure your room temperature is to your personal preference.
What is included in my stay?
All stays include full-board accommodation, with delicious vegetarian or vegan meals, refreshments throughout the day, and access to our tranquil gardens, library/quiet room, and lounge spaces.
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
Yes. We can accommodate most dietary needs, including vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets. Please inform us of any requirements when booking.
What is a typical vegetarian breakfast like?
Our breakfasts are served in a buffet/help-yourself style, offering everything from toast, boiled eggs, cheeses, fruits, cereals, overnight oats, juices, teas and coffees. Gluten free options are available.
Do you allow or serve alcohol on site?
No, we are an alcohol free house.
If I have booked Bed and Breakfast accommodation with you, can I bring my own food for lunches and dinners?
Yes, you are welcome to bring simple meals to reheat. We have a microwave and small fridge in our dining room. Please be mindful that we are a vegetarian house. We can also recommend local pubs and restaurants nearby should you wish to eat out. Unfortunately, we don’t have a full time chef, so please speak contact us in advance to discuss arranging any meals.
I have booked a one day course at Claridge House, can I book accommodation before and/or after my course?
Yes, adding B&B options is a great way to maximise your time at Claridge House and save you rushing back home after a course.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check in is from 3pm, followed by tea & cake at 4pm. Check out is after lunch at 2pm Sunday – Thursday or after breakfast by 10am on Fridays
Can I check in early and drop off my luggage before my room is ready?
Yes, usually this is fine, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs – please try and let us know your arrival times asap.
Retreats and Activities
What types of retreats do you offer?
We host a range of wellbeing retreats, including mindfulness, meditation, yoga, creative arts, relaxation weekends, and silent retreats. Some are guided, while others offer space for personal reflection.
Can I come for a personal retreat rather than a structured programme?
Absolutely. Guests are welcome to book onto our Full Board Personal Retreat stays for quiet rest, reading, or contemplation without joining a group activity. These retreats are self-guided so your itinerary is totally up to you – whether you’d like to join in with activities happening or not, everything is optional and based on your desires and needs.
Do you offer day retreats or workshops?
Yes, we offer day retreats, half-day retreats and workshops throughout the year, allowing guests to experience the benefits of Claridge House without an overnight stay. These short courses are an ideal way of trying something new before committing to a full weekend retreat or course. Some of our retreats have the option to be booked on a non-residential basis, too, if you are a local resident or if cost is an issue.
Practical Information
How do I get to Claridge House?
We are easily accessible by train or car, located near Lingfield Station in Surrey. Directions and travel information are available on our website or upon request. We can provide you with contact details for a local taxi company if needed.
Is there parking available?
Yes, we offer free on-site, limited parking for all guests.
Is Wi-Fi available?
Free Wi-Fi is available in the house, though guests are encouraged to use it mindfully to support a restful, screen-free experience.
Is Claridge House accessible for guests with limited mobility?
Yes, we have ground-floor rooms and accessible facilities. Please contact us in advance to discuss your specific needs.
Bookings and Policies
How do I book a retreat or stay?
You can book directly through our website, by phone, or by emailing our reception team. Early booking is recommended as places are limited.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made more than 28 days before arrival may be refunded (minus an administration fee). Cancellations made closer to the arrival date may incur charges. Please see our full cancellation policy for details.
Can I buy gift vouchers?
Yes, gift vouchers are available and make a thoughtful present for anyone in need of rest and renewal. Please contact welcome@claridgehouse.org.uk for more information. We also have a small range of gifts and wellness items to buy during your stay here. Cash or card is accepted.
Are pets allowed?
To maintain a peaceful environment, pets are not permitted, except for registered assistance dogs.
During Your Stay
What is a typical full board personal retreat schedule like?
Check in 3pm, Tea and Cake 4pm, 2- course Dinner is served at 6.30pm. Breakfasts are served between 8.30am-9.30am, Coffee and biscuits at 11/11.30am, lunch is served (family style) at 1pm. We have 2 quiet times a day at 9.45-10am and 4.45-5pm. On Sundays, our Meeting For Worship takes place in the Quiet Room between 9.45-10.45am. You are welcome join any of these quiet times if you’d like to. Outside of those times, you are free to use your time however you wish.
Is there a dress code?
We encourage comfortable, casual clothing suitable for relaxation and gentle activities such as yoga or walking. Claridge House is an old Victorian property that can get a little chilly sometimes, so please feel free to bring cosy layers and slippers or indoor shoes, should you wish. We have plenty of blankets if you need.
Can I use my mobile phone during my stay?
To preserve the atmosphere of peace, we ask guests to use phones discreetly and avoid loud conversations in shared spaces.
What should I bring with me?
Comfortable clothing, any personal toiletries, any device chargers required and outdoor wear for walks. Towels and bedding and hairdryers are provided.
Will there be a TV in my room?
No, there are no TV’s in the rooms (except the Courtyard Apartment) to encourage a complete break from screen-time and modern-day stresses. Why not sit down at the piano, utilise our art supplies, find a book from our library/quiet room or take a stroll through our mindful meditation walk.
I see there is a treatment room on site, can I book a treatment during my stay at Claridge House?

I need to bring medication with me during my stay that needs to be refrigerated. Will this be possible?
Yes, we have a small communal fridge in the dining room or you can use the fridges in our main kitchen – please ensure it is packaged and labelled properly.
