Calligraphy Weekend with Gaynor Goffe

This course is suitable for all levels from beginner to advanced, and will offer a range of scripts to choose from including basic versions and more advanced variations on:-  italic, uncial, foundational hand, versals, copperplate, ‘modern’ pointed pen cursive, Roman capitals, italic capitals, flourished italic and capitals, and many other scripts. After learning/experimenting with letterforms the script(s) will be used in the lay-out ad design of short quotations. Writing in colour will also be covered.

The tutor will bring spare tools and materials to use as necessary, including pointed nibs for those wishing to study copperplate or ‘modern’ pointed pen scripts.

Gaynor Goffe Biography:   A professional calligrapher and qualified teacher for 45+ years.  Trained in calligraphy, illumination and heraldic painting at Reigate School of Art & Design, followed by 3 years as calligraphy assistant to Donald Jackson.  Taught Calligraphy on the renowned calligraphy courses at the Roehampton Institute (now University) 1981-97, as an assistant to Ann Camp until her retirement in 1990, and at RSAD until 2000.  Taught on many short courses in Britain and abroad including Japan, USA, Germany, Sweden etc.  Runs 1-2-1 zoom group tuition.  Publications include ‘Calligraphy Made Easy’ and ‘Calligraphy Step by Step’ with A. Ravenscroft, and a calligraphic typeface ‘Hamada’ digitized and released by Linotype in 2007.
