Mindful Drawing Morning: The Quiet Art of Seeing
This morning retreat focusses on mindful drawing as a practice for wellbeing. It is about learning to observe, to slow down, and to become fully absorbed in the simple act of drawing. It is all about the process, without judgement or pressure on outcomes.
The morning will consist of a series of guided drawing exercises designed to promote focus, flow and relaxation, accompanied by calming classical music. We will experiment with mark-making using different drawing materials including pencil, charcoal, soft pastel, pen and ink while we work from a variety of natural forms. If the weather is kind, we will include a time of quiet sketching in the garden.
Come as you are and leave feeling grounded, restored, and creatively awake.
No previous experience is required, only a willingness to look closely and draw without judgement. All materials will be provided.
More about Jenny:
Jennifer trained at the Art Academy in London (2010 – 2012). She is a figurative artist working primarily in drawing media and oils. Her practice is rooted in close observation, with drawing acting as both starting point and anchor—a means of truly looking, and finding rhythm, structure, and clarity.
In her early practise, she gained recognition for her paintings of London street scenes, and landscape subjects of all kinds continue to inform and inspire her work. Jennifer has completed several extended journeys in order to explore the narrative that emerges through painting series linked by place. These ‘journey projects’ include the Thames Path, the Jurassic Coastline, the Pilgrims’ Way, and the River Wey Navigations.
Jennifer approaches painting as an ongoing conversation between what is seen and what is felt, and her influences include – Cézanne, Bonnard, Vuillard, Joan Eardley, and the Scottish Colourists. Lyricism, flow, order, and rhythm are central to her practice, as is the shifting interplay between solidity and fragmentation, transience and constancy.
She has exhibited at the Mall Galleries and is represented by galleries across the UK. In 2016 she won the Windsor and Eton En Plein Air painting competition, and her work was subsequently admitted to the Royal Collection.
Jennifer is passionate about sharing her love of drawing and painting through her teaching work. She teaches regular drawing and painting workshops for adults and young people at various community arts locations in Surrey.
