Bloomin’ Watercolour with William de Wilde SBAF August 1/2 Day

A Journey in Paint into The World of Summer Flowers

Award-Winning artist and Fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists, William de Wilde, will be running a half-day course exploring the magic of watercolour with flowers.

William (otherwise known as Bill) will demonstrate the unique qualities of the medium for capturing the subtle transparencies and colours of the petals and will also look at the challenges of mixing various greens in foliage. Bill’s many years of teaching experience at various levels will make this course suitable for beginners as well as seasoned artists. After Bill’s demonstration, everyone will have the opportunity to choose a flower to paint themselves. Attendees will learn tips from Bill in how best to capture the parts of the flower and will have individual help throughout the course.

More about Bill:

Bill is British painter, illustrator and educator, of Flemish heritage. He specialises in botanical illustration, portrait and landscape painting. He is a Fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists (FSBA) and painting member of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society (CPGFS) and lives and works in West Sussex.

In January 2025, Bill was awarded a grant from The Society of Botanical Aritsts to focus on the vital role of Britain’s roadside verges as habitats for rare and endangered native plants. His 2025 project will document and illustrate wildflowers growing in Sussex verges, aiming to raise awareness of their ecological importance.

Please note all attendees to provide their own materials (watercolour paints, brushes and paper). Flowers and water jars will be provided.
